Pieces of a Whole
The visual environment is increasingly cluttered and complex. Amid all the visual noise, we seek comfort in patterns. We find meaning in things that are in succession, repeated, expected. Patterns quiet the mind. Scientific patterns govern the way our world and our bodies work while visual pat-terns stimulate aesthetic sensibilities. Repetition and order are especially appreciated by those who experience anxiety (hence, my infatuation with patterns). Pieces of a Whole examines the formal qualities of pattern through the lens of emotion and meaning. It explores how patterns affect our mood and/or perception of space and objects, and how they impact the way we process the complex visual environment in which we live.
