Virtual Choices
When I access the internet using the technological devices at my disposal, I often think about how vast the digital landscape is, how billions of people are simultaneously utilizing and communicating via the net, and how vital digital technology is in daily life. We can work remotely, access information immediately, conduct instantaneous conversations. However, we also must be discerning. Is the information one seeks credible, is it from an evidence-based source or is it crowd-sourced public opinion. Does the subject of one’s search require in-depth information from peer-reviewed scholarly sites or is immediate access to information on Wikipedia good enough. I sometimes visualize the online decision-making process as two doors that will lead me to two completely different conclusions. I must choose. That’s the dilemma.
