Xoctli
Mexico is a country with a rich and colorful culture steeped in tradition. While older generations have preserved many of the cultural practices, younger generations, particularly those who have moved to other countries, may find it challenging to connect with their heritage. As society progresses and new ways of life are adopted, it can be even more difficult to maintain a connection to traditional rituals. However, cooking is a great way to reconnect with one's cultural roots, from preparing traditional foods to using traditional utensils such as a molcajete or a molinillo. Xoctli was inspired by clay pottery traditionally made in Mexico by artisans, in combination with contemporary ideas and technology. The result is an efficiently designed rice cooker that shares the visual language of traditional Mexican pottery and is a marker of one’s heritage, right there on the kitchen counter.
