Building Character
Chicago is a very particular kind of city. Those born and bred in Chicago are a particular kind of people. This has everything to do with the city’s ethnic, racial, and cultural diversity. Chicago is the world in a city. There are seventy-seven different neighborhoods, from Chinatown to Greektown, Little Italy to Ukrainian Village, Pilsen to Logan Square. The list goes on. First generation families and individuals continue to take root in Chicago and flourish. It is a working city, a city of contradictions. It is friendly, like the heartland, and has an ego as big as the moon. Native Chicagoans will say the city molded them. That’s true for me. As a designer, I am interested in diversity, in blending cultures, mixing and remixing identities. The result is work that clearly represents recognizable facets of Chicago and, at the same time, coheres to form a unified whole.
