Splay is a chair inspired by the expressive gesture of one element splitting into two, veering away from one another, growing apart, blooming, as it were, into something new. In fact, Splay is much more than a chair. It is an examination of and respect for the history of chair design. Most importantly, it is an homage to the pioneer of the bent-lamination process, Alvar Aalto. An exploration of shape, proportion, structure, material, and functionality, Splay combines individual parts in a way that imbues the design with personality and grace. A chair to be sat in, an object to behold, and permanent guest in one’s household. Indeed, who would ever part with it?
