Crossed Wires, Crossed Thoughts
Mental illness is a difficult, constant, and everchanging fight that is unique to each person who lives with one. A lot of effort is put into bringing awareness and educating people about mental illness, but today’s digital world makes it hard to do so in a serious way. The result is a plethora of memes, monetized ‘help,’ silly catchphrases, corny videos, cartoonish art, and superficial advice. As someone that struggles with various mental illnesses, I know how overwhelming and frustrating this media can be. Design can be used to convey emotion and internal battles that are difficult to put into words. Crossed Wires, Crossed Thoughts is based on my own experiences dealing with mental illness. It is designed as a series of evocative multimedia compositions to help viewers understand, through visual means, the thoughts and emotions that come with living with a psychological disability that are hard to describe in any other way.
